Why is it so hard to ask for help? We give a few ideas of how to ask for help when you are feeling stuck.
Have you ever felt so overwhelmed it was almost paralyzing? How do you get started?
Today we are sharing tools you can use when you are feeling stuck and don’t know how to get started?
Could you call a friend or listen to your favorite podcast (*wink, wink)?
Many times it is easier to chat with a friend while doing a daunting task, for me that is folding laundry. For Bethany, she called me while cleaning out her car. This tip, also called body doubling, is useful in multiple areas of life from exercise to chores!
Could you invite a friend to do errands together or plan a fun treat as a reward for conquering a dreaded errand. Ask yourself, “How can I make this fun?” and plan a little whimsy in with the task. Hey, we do this for our kids, we can do it for ourselves too!
If friends are not available because they are busy too themselves, or maybe you need a solo day, put on your favorite audiobook, music, or show, in the background. This is not for deep decluttering of course, but more for mindless tasks.
Could you hire someone, an organizer, a housekeeper, etc.?
This is hard sometimes when you feel like you should be able to take care of it yourself but if you are overwhelmed this might be exactly what you need.
You can interview multiple people, and as Bethany found when working with a professional organizer, it might not be the best fit and you can hire someone else. A lot of organizers are offering virtual service now, myself included! This could be a great option to “try out” an organizer without making a big investment.
If you are interested in learning more about my virtual organizing service, you can read more about it here and let me now when you are ready to schedule your no-obligation consultation here.
Please don’t get stuck with the “what if’s,” take the 1st step and the rest of the pieces can fall into place as you go.
Could you putting the project on hold for a season?
We know that is not possible for every project but when there is a big project that is bothering or nagging you until you get it done; give your permission to push down further on the list.
Write a full list of all the projects you have to do and are doing to visually see what, realistically, you have time for.
This of course is not a comprehensive list, but it is what we have been doing when we feel overwhelmed. When you feel stuck, what steps do you take to help you move forward?
