10 Day Challenge!
I have always been a champion of small bursts of organizing sessions. You can surprise yourself with how much you are able to accomplish in a short amount of time! We’ve talked about 10 minute organizing before, also known as 10 Minute Tuesdays, in Ep 17 podcast And I even have a whole page dedicated to 10 min organizing projects. We’ve decided that now would be a perfect time to host a mini-organizing challenge. We are going to be organizing for 10 minutes each day for 10 days. To go along with the challenge, we will be publishing mini-podcasts episode every day for 10 days! We are so, so excited and can’t wait for you to join us in the 10 Day Organizing Challenge! What is 10 Minute Organizing?
10 Minute Organizing is simple. You pick a small space to focus on; a drawer, shelf, etc. Set a timer for 10 minutes and start organizing:- sort like with like
- throw away trash
- create “Put elsewhere” pile for items that don’t belong
- note any to-do’s to tackle later
- wipe down space
- organize sorted items into bins arranged in space
*If there is extra time: label bins
Why 10 Minute Organizing Works?
10 minutes set aside to tackle the little things, that somehow always feel like big things, can make a huge difference!- Limiting your organizing time to only 10 minutes allows you to find time in your day to get it done. You don’t have to set aside a whole day to organize.
- The hardest part is getting started. We are removing that roadblock with a time limit and daily commitment.
- The 10 minute time limit forces you to stay focused.
- We are hoping the biggest thing with this challenge is that we are going to be your accountability partners. Whether that means, messaging us privately or sharing your before and after pictures on social media with us (tag us @AtoBpodcast) we want to hear about your progress!

Plan When- Stick to the time of day you planned in Step 3 above. Don’t skip a day!- stay consistent so you don’t have to decide if you want to do your 10 minutes of organizing or not, you are just going to do it! Starting is the hardest part, so make starting just a given. Set a timer– stay focused because 10 minutes isn’t that long.Have a notebook– jot down tasks as you think of them.Ex. You might think of an item to add to your grocery list as you are cleaning out your fridge or you might think of a recipe to use up the rest of the chicken. You don’t want to get sidetracked, so keep a pad of paper close by to record all of your great ideas while organizing!
You also might come across tasks or projects to do. Record your tasks and then designate a spot for current/ to-do projects materials.
Don’t get carried away– try to keep the spaces small. We want these to be do-able projects. I don’t have more time, in fact I have less time, more cooking, cleaning and instruction since my kids are home, but everyone has 10 minutes!! In the same vein, don’t spend hours on a small area. We know organizing might go over the 10 minutes, especially if the space hasn’t seen much organizing in the past. So an extra 10 minutes is understood, especially if you are in a rhythm and are extra motivated to get it done! However, be aware of a major pitfall. If you spend 2 hours on organizing a cabinet, the next day you might avoid starting your 10 minute organizing session because you don’t want to commit another 2 hours to organizing! I don’t blame you! Leave time to clean up – At the end of your 10 minutes you most likely will have piles: trash, belongs elsewhere, and donations. Spend the 2 minutes to take care of those piles now. You don’t want your 10 minute organizing to be lingering for days! After you finish your 10 minute organizing, we want to celebrate with you, yes, each and every day. So check in with us! Don’t skip this!Links to Topics Mentioned in this Podcast Episode:

We have made it a point, on A to B Podcast and also in my business, Space for Living Organizing, not to focus too heavily on organizing supplies.Even though buying containers and clever products is the fun part about getting organized, many times the shiny, new products can take away from the hard work necessary to clear clutter and get organized.I am hear to say you don’t need fancy bins and containers to get organized! You can use old shoe boxes if necessary. However, I am fully aware that there are times when finding the perfect organizing product is the icing on the cake to a job well done! So we have created a page to commend you for all the hard work you have put in to getting organized. Now it is time to put the icing on the cake, it is time to celebrate your new space!Check out our new favorite products page! It with include some tried and true products that I continue to use with multiple clients. We are also including products and resources we’ve mention on the podcast. Now we will have a central location to link to products mentioned so you don’t have to remember exactly what episode we talked about it.If you are still struggling through the hard work of decluttering and getting organized, not quite ready to put the icing on the cake, we get it and we are here cheering you on!If you are feeling stuck and wondering why it is just not working, I offer a FREE 20 minute phone/ skype consultation to see if virtual organizing can help you.
