I’m back and continuing the fun of handing out year-end “best of” awards (high- school style). Most Popular and Teachers’ Pet have already been taken but there are still plenty of Space for Living posts I deemed worthy of an award.
Best School Spirit
This award is solely based on the number of comments it received. Really, I am pleased as punch that the drastic change was conveyed across the web. If you ever think your space is too cluttered to change, this closet proves that it can be done!
Jaw Dropping Closet Makeover
Hold on to your seats, you are about to see an amazing transformation! I was there and I can hardly believe it myself.
The small room in question has to serve multiple functions: as a pantry, a laundry room and a storage closet for four roommates! However, the room was hardly functioning at all. It had been taken over by storage, very disorganized storage.
If you look closely on the left side of the picture above you can see the corner of the washing machine. Four roommates were trying to maneuver their way into the room to do their laundry. “We basically get in and get out. It’s become a dumping ground for stuff we don’t know what to do with.”
There is also a bookshelf that serves as the pantry on the opposite wall. The path to the pantry was blocked and one could only access their food with a mega arm reach.
Prettiest
It is hard to label anything as THE prettiest, let alone pick out just one project to give that title. The desk project was eventually deemed the prettiest because I use my desk daily and it still makes me smile every time I open those cabinet doors. Being greeted everyday by that bright blue totally made the project worth the work.
Desk Disgrace to Desk Delight
My long abandoned desk has undergone an organization overall. After getting way too comfortable doing my computer work in a comfy (but non-ergo friendly) armchair; I knew it was time to reclaim my desk space! The first stage of the desk overhaul is already a huge improvement.
Since it was definitely much more functional, I decided it was time to add some fun. Enter some color; first, a little bright blue to the back of the bookshelves. Read more…
Most Likely to Succeed
This title goes to a project that was super easy and has made such a difference in our cord corralling that it’s sure to be maintained.
Once a Drawer, Now a Charging Station
After a bit of celebrating, I was ready to conquer some cord clutter! I have been meaning to resolve this issue since this previous 10 Minute Tuesday Project.
Although there are many options to wrangle pesky cords, my favorite solution is to simply banish this visual clutter out of sight. And a drawer is a perfect place to hide a charging station! Here are my super simple steps for converting a drawer into a cord clutter hideaway.
Step 1
Grab the whole mess of cords on your husband’s bedside table (the ones you’ve been meaning to deal with for oh, I don’t know, 9 months or so).
Wow! That wraps up the end of the year review. It’s been such an exciting year here in Space for Living land. I’m so glad you’re a part of the journey. If you missed the first awards ceremony, see all the winners here.
What are you doing to wrap up the end of 2011?
