I am becoming addicted to spray painting. Don’t worry; I am not out there on the streets under a bridge. I am on my balcony making major changes, one small can of paint at a time.
Since this is the 5th item I have spray painted in a two week time period I might have a problem. But let’s focus on what I am painting. This fun metal potting planter from Ikea.
I posed it among my container garden so you can get the full impact of its shiny ‘before’ splendor. I opted to find a new use for this little planter. I’d scoured IKEA for a perfectly sized trash can that I also wouldn’t mind looking at everyday. When I didn’t find anything in the housewares section, I wandered into the gardening section. I chose this $4.99 beauty as the new trash can to use in my desk overhaul. As much as I love the shiny industrial look of the container, I don’t necessarily want a shiny attention grabber for my trash.
Here is the where the glory of spray paint steps in. “I’ll paint it white!” I already had a can of white paint left over so it was a painless decision. I elevated the bucket onto a large vinegar bottle to reach the rim without spraying the inside white.
As soon as my 2 coats of paint were dry, I didn’t waste any time to remove the large brown plastic trash can that was there before
and replace it with the new. It seems a little dwarfed in the open cubbie but if I need any extra storage space I can add a little storage box and place the trash can on top of it to maximize space.
There is no denying the beauty of spray paint!
What have you spray painted lately?

though I’m yet to spray anything, after seeing your cute green office accessories I did pick up a selection of spray paints in a closing down sale at the weekend. I wouldn’t normally be so extravagant given the price without a project planned for them, but at 75% off I couldn’t resist. Now i’m looking all round the house for my first thing to spray!

I love it! You must show us pictures of your final product. Will you post it on facebook when you’re done? I need to keep my eyes peeled for that 75% off spray paint. What a score!

Tape a plastic “lace” tablecloth on your UGLY outdoor trashcans, then spray paint whatever color you want! It creates a MUCH prettier and very DISTINCTIVE trash can. You’ll be the envy of the neighborhood. 🙂
