I have been avoiding something. When I walk by, I politely look the other way.
But ever since I spent 10 minutes on my own bedside table,
this side has been glaring back at me. I can’t pretend it doesn’t exist any more!
You might say, “It doesn’t look so bad,” but you haven’t seen what is lurking inside the drawer.
Cords, oh those dreadful cords! One of the many reasons I have been avoiding my hubby’s bedside table is because I have a whole list of things I want to do to get it in order; including purchasing an efficient charging station that actually holds all the cords. My desire to find/make the perfect charging station so the bedside is perfectly organized has been paralyzing me from making any move on this table!
No more excuses! I don’t need a new charging station to clean up those papers. I am challenging myself to take a small step on this project in a 10 minute time limit. With my time limit in place, I won’t get hung up on finding the perfect solution.
Once I released the pressure to get the whole project done in one sitting, I knew I could make some head way and even let others join in the fun. Yes, I said fun! My 2-year-old helped dust and pile up magazines. How cute is that!? (I’m going to take her up on her requests to help mama while she’s still offering!)
After 10 minutes, the table was far from perfect but there was progress. The drawer was emptied and cleaned while the sorted cords were on top of the table. A definite improvement!
I could have placed the sorted cords back in the drawer and been in much better shape; but with my momentum I wanted to make one more improvement to the drawer. After 12 minutes, each seldom used cord was placed in a labeled bag.
The baggies are corralled in a wire mesh container.
After a total elapsed time of 22 minutes, the bedside table had been transformed!
Much better than what we started with.
Once you take that first step to get over your procrastination, it is hard to stop.
Let’s keep it real here. I still have cords I am trying to hide in the corner but we can’t save the world from tangled cords in only 10 minutes.
That is another project for another day. For now, I will walk past my bed without shielding my eyes and with my head held up just a tiny bit higher when I glimpse the matching tables!
What project are you working on? Anyone having trouble taking that first small step?

My desk is a big problem for me. I cleaned it about a month ago, but it has just returned to its messy state. I need to find homes for all the stuff. So difficult.

Its funny how we dread to do something that in the end really doesnt take a lot of time and makes a world of difference. Thanks for reminding me!

Chandeen-
That is the same problem with the charging station, always returning to its messy state. I am on the look out for a better solution.
queenbee-
Why do we always forget that so quickly! Thanks for reading along.

I think this might just get me to attack my bedside tables when I get home tonight. Also, I have the same bedding in my room.

Kate-Gotta love Target! When you tackle your bedside table I’d love to see pics!

I am LOL because that could be my husbands table, Popular Mechanics and cords included.

BT- That is so funny! As you can see from the after picture, I didn't get to purge any PM magazines.
