A weekend trip to Costco inspired the need for this weeks 10 minute Tuesday Project. We needed to restock our toiletries and heading to Costco (a giant warehouse store) meant that our new stockpile of goodies would last us for quite a while but it also meant that we needed a place to store them.
The bathroom cabinet under the sink has two functions, to house our
- bath items
- stockpile of toiletries and first aid items
10 minutes was much needed to reorganize the cabinet instead of just stuffing things in.
Honestly, I was concerned about completing this project within the 10 minute time limit; but I’d rather spend extra time in my day playing with my girls or catching up on my blog reading, not organizing our bathroom cabinet.
So with a goal of 10 minutes I did a little prep work by grabbing a few containers from my stash so I could focus on organizing for the full 10 minutes instead of collecting supplies. I was not particular about which containers I would use since they will be hidden underneath a bathroom sink. I collected a variety of cardboard boxes and castaways from other projects.
With my timer in hand, I was set to go! I set the timer for two 5 minute sessions in order to snap a few mid-organizing photos.
After 5 minutes, I had most of the cabinet empty and spread out around me. I had pared down the bath toys to only ones the girls use regularly and put the other ones to the side to be stored elsewhere. I occasionally like to swap out their toys to help keep things fresh and interesting, so I don’t mind adding the extra bath toys to my other toy storage.
The soap and cleaning supplies were also containerized before wiping down the inside of the cabinet.
The small standing shelf in the back of the cabinet provides extra raised storage for all my extra medicine. I have current in-use bottles stored in an easier to reach cabinet. The medicines stored here were all keepers with the exception of some expired vitamins which helped make a little extra room.
The stockpile of soap was removed from its original packaging and organized in its own container which definitely took up less space. I used an extra Ikea drawer divider from another project to house the soap. The container is stored out of the way in the back of the cabinet, since I will rarely need to access it.
The cleaning supplies were moved to the back of the cabinet behind the extra tp. I have a lot of sponges because I reuse old kitchen sponges for toilet cleaning rather than just trashing them. For my 10 minute session, giving the extra sponges a home was all I needed to focus on. I decided I would think about a solution to my abundance of sponges later, otherwise I knew I would quickly be sidetracked and my cabinet would remain emptied on the bathroom floor for days!
I was thrilled with the final “after” cabinet! There is now room for my stockpiles of toiletries and medicine as well as room for our everyday bath items.
Okay, its your turn! Which cabinet are you going to spend 10 minutes on? Grab your timer, and remember you don’t need to spend any longer than 10 minutes on it! Share your progress below!
