Today’s question is about a rarely seen but often rumored phenomenon… An empty inbox? Is it even possible?
The blogosphere is abuzz with speculation and ideas about the empty inbox.
On a whim last summer, I challenged myself to actually empty my email inbox.
It took me a few weeks.
It was pretty weird to see nothing in my inbox. And pretty nifty too.
Then I tried to empty it every day.

Keeping an empty inbox means no worrying that there’s something I ought to have replied to, no forgetting to follow up on important matters, no burdened sigh on seeing a long list of maybe-I-need-to-do-something-about-some-of-these messages every time I open my e-mail. It improves my mood and keeps me focused on things I actually need to do.
I’ve only had an empty in-box for a short time, but all indications so far are that it will be much easier to keep an empty inbox now than it was to keep a full one before.
I am so curious, how many emails are in your inbox?
My inbox -846 Of course, not to be out done by my man- 3,219!
With the holidays in full swing, I’m not ready to tackle this project quite yet. But it’s got me inspired to find out exactly what lurks in those 846 messages. Toni over at A bowl full of lemons took the plunge and organized her inbox.

Before getting married in October of 2010, my email inbox was at 3,776. My soon-to-be husband was looking over my shoulder one day and said, "Oh, when we're married, we're going to go through all those." I love my new last name and wanted to change my email address to reflect it, so we haven't gone through the thousands of unopened forwards and "sale ends todays!"….but my new email of only two months already has boosted up to 295. This blog entry reminded me I must stop the craziness now and click DELETE!

That is so funny Stacy! One tip I found to clean out your inbox in 30 seconds is to move everything to a folder labeled with the date range. Then your inbox is clean but you are still left without a system for the new emails! It is one of my goals for 2011 so I’ll keep you updated on the process.
