Frosting Covered Fun

Happy Birthday to my 6 year old today!

Time to take a little paper break with cake! I do love cake. I have been slowly honing my cake making skills. I figure by the time my kids are 20 I’ll have it down!

So in case you are like me and looking for a way to make a cake shaped like a 6 without using cupcakes or a sheet cake (because that would be too easy) here’s how I did it.

You’ll need to make a double batch to fill one loaf pan and two rounds for the circle layered cake.

You can make a template of the number 6. Two paper towels might not be the what professional use but it works great! Or just wing it.

Slice a triangle off the top of the loaf cake to fill in the angle between the loaf and rounds. Then sculpt the rectangle to make it look like the top of the six. I looked at a few different fonts to get a better idea. At first, I loped off the top to do straight line top and then decided I liked the rounded better.

If I was to do it again, I would slice the loaf pan cake horizontally to add a middle layer of frosting. How can you go wrong with more frosting inside a cake!

We used crumbled Oreos for the road after scrapping out the center icing; which was then used for the road lines.

Oreos made a boarder of tires, at least that is what we called it. My daughter made the checkered flags taped on skewers.

Overall, it was a hit and way easier then carving Lightening out of cake.

I could hardly get her to stand still for pictures.

Now I have to get to work on a Lightening McQueen Halloween costume!

Anyone else with Cars crazy kids?
